Glendhu Bay Campsite, New Zealand

Jesica

Whenever I’m in a rush, I often grab a salad from New World in town. It was during one of these quick stops that I first noticed Jesica. With her striking features and a presence similar to a South American Angelina Jolie, she immediately caught my eye. I approached her with an invitation to join my photography project, and to my delight, she agreed.

We arranged to meet at the Glendhu Bay Campsite, where Jesica and her partner, Julian, call home. They live in a cozy caravan with a stunning view of the lake and the surrounding mountains.

Originally from the bustling city of Buenos Aires, Jesica has spent the past year and a half in Wānaka. This small, serene town is a sharp contrast to her former city life, yet she has adapted with ease. Upon her arrival, Jesica was warmly embraced by the local community, who helped her find accommodation for herself and Julian. Although she initially struggled with English, the kindness and support of Wānaka’s residents have been a constant source of encouragement. Jesica now works at New World, where she continues to improve her English through daily interactions.

Inspired by her partner’s family, who shared their positive experiences in New Zealand, Jesica applied for a working holiday visa and was thrilled to be accepted, despite the competitive selection process in Argentina.

In her free time, Jesica explores Wānaka’s stunning landscapes and makes the rounds at local cafes for her favorite coffee: a flat white. Her love for baking drives her to try out pastries from every shop in town—yes, she’s on a mission to taste them all. Pembroke Patisserie in Albert Town is her favorite spot so far.

Before I left, Jesica offered me one of her homemade cookies. I could tell she was a talented baker, and I was genuinely impressed that she managed to make such delicious treats in the tiny confines of a caravan kitchen!
