About
My name is Bianca de Groot.
I grew up in the French-speaking region of Belgium, though my parents are originally from the Netherlands. My academic background is in Mathematics, which I studied at the University of Utrecht, followed by a Master’s in Econometrics in Rotterdam. Next to my analytical background, photography has always been a true passion, and I’ve dedicated much of my time improving my skills in this field.

I began my photography journey at the age of 18 while I was exploring the streets of London as an au pair. In my first year of my mathematics program, I joined the photography committee and started capturing events like musicals, concerts and introductory days. Shortly after, a dear friend gifted me a film camera, and I started capturing the essence of cities like Rome, Paris, and Amsterdam - falling in love with the art of storytelling through images. During my university years, I also took photography courses at the Cultural Centre of the University of Utrecht, Parnassos, where I focused on Composition Photography, Portrait Photography and Documentary Photography. These courses deepened my understanding of photography and helped shape my approach to capturing moments.

Photography isn't just about the technical aspects; for me, photography is an art of observation. It's about finding beauty in the everyday, tuning in to fleeting moments, and waiting for that perfect shot. Capturing those little glimpses of beauty gives me a deep sense of fulfillment. That's why I do this.

In 2019, I officially became a photographer, registered my business. While working as a supervisor for the Dutch Central Bank, I spent my weekends photographing weddings, mostly. Photographing weddings allows me to combine my love for street photography, portraits, architecture, and capturing raw, unposed moments. It is a beautiful blend of all the elements I love about photography.

In September 2023, I decided to embark on an adventure in New Zealand with my van. I found myself in Wanaka, a breathtaking place where expanded my passion for photography by teaching photography. I taught courses on the Basics of Photography, Composition in Photography and Colour Theory in Photography. I also did a portrait documentary photography project for the Welcoming Community in Wanaka, New Zealand. I'm excited to continue offering these photography lessons in other locations, as I enjoyed it very much.

Since the end of 2024. I have been back in Utrecht and am available to shoot family portraits, weddings, and more.

I'm deeply attuned to the world around me. I observe the world closely, whether it's nature, cities, or people. I love music, movies, art, languages and cultures, genuine connections, meaningful conversations, and a good laugh.

Probably the happiest I've ever been: Lake Pukaki, New Zealand, with my own van.

Wanaka, New Zealand 2024. The most special place for me in the world.
