Background.

Stanley Kubrick was born in New York City, USA, on Joly 26, 1928. He grew up in the Bronx, where he developed a passion for photography at a young age. Kubrick's early interest in visual arts would later evolve int his groundbreaking career as a filmmaker, making him one of the most influential directors in the history of cinema. His New York roots, coupled with his insatiable curiosity and intellectual drive, shaped the unique perspective he brought to his work.

Stanley Kubrick did not attend film school. In fact, he did not receive formal education in filmmaking at all. Instead, Kubrick was largely self-taught. His interest in photography began in his teens, and he worked as a photographer for Look magazine, which gave him early experience with visual composition and storytelling.

Kubrick's transition into filmmaking was driven by his natural curiosity and a keen desire to learn by doing. He started making short films in the early 1950s, gradually building his skills through hands-on experience and experimentation. His lack of formal training in film allowed him to develop an independent approach to filmmaking, which later became one of the defining features of his career.

Kubrick's work is often characterized by meticulous attention to detail, innovative techniques, and a unique artistic vision - traits that stemmed from his deep commitment to mastering the craft through personal exploration rather than traditional academic routes.

Quotes - Stanley Kubrick

"A film is - or should be- more like music than like fiction. It should be a progression of moods and feelings. The theme, what's behind the emotion, the meaning, all that comes later.

"The best education in film is to make one".

"I don't believe that it is the job of the artist to put answers into a work of art. I think it is the artist's job to present questions".

"I'm always looking for something that no one else has seen before".

"I have no idea what I'm doing, and I'm just following my instincts. I hope it works".

"What defines a true artist is not the number of followers he has, but the amount of pain he is willing to suffer".

"If it can be written, or thought, it can be filmed".

"A director is a little bit like a conductor, trying to get everybody on the same wavelength".
